Open Announcement Management, under System Utilities & Reports, to add any information you would like on your login page or at the top of your schedule.
Announcements are easy to add, edit, and remove, and you can format them with colors, bold, images, and other options, so they are useful for giving instructions and posting information.
While the schedule does not need instructions for students (because students have an easy time using the options that are available to them), you might have something you would like to point out. For example, if you add a new schedule, add an announcement so that students notice it quickly. If you would like students to select a focus from your recently-updated list in the "limit to" menu, add an announcement.
